New home sales off slightly in May
Business News June 23rd. 2011, 10:13pmWASHINGTON, June 23 (UPI) — Sales of new single-family homes fell slightly in May from April, the U.S. Commerce Department said Thursday.
Home sales in May came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 319,000, which is 2.1 percent below April’s revised rate of 326,000, but 13.5 percent above May 2010 when 281,000 new homes were sold.
The Commerce Department said the average sales price for a new home sold in May was $266,400.
At the end of May, there were 166,000 new homes on the market, a 6.2-month supply at the current rate of sales, the Commerce Department said.
