‘Tis the season to make New Year’s resolutions. And soon it will be the season for forgetting about them. According to a recent study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, only 46 percent of those resolutions will be kept for more than six months. You may notice that two financial goals– Manage Debt and Save Money– are both among the most popular. Another popular website, 43things.com, shows that saving money is number four on the list of most popular resolutions for 2011. Beating it out are losing weight, being happy and falling in love. Another study puts paying off credit cards as sixth on the list of popular resolutions. So what turns a resolution into an accomplishment? One study shows that people who set specific resolutions are ten times more likely to achieve those goals compared to those who make general resolutions. Experts advice breaking your goals into smaller action steps or tasks so that you’re able to build momentum and make progress on a daily or weekly basis.
